This page explains how our comparisons are made: how we choose products, how a score is arrived at, what determines the order, and how the site is funded.
For each comparison we first work out which products are relevant in the category at the time of research, drawing on bestseller rankings, current search trends and publicly available tests and reviews. We then narrow that shortlist by availability, price, features and customer feedback. This is an editorial selection, not a complete view of the market.
Our assessments draw on manufacturer information, technical data, features and publicly available sources. Products we have to hand are also tried in practice.
The overall score out of ten reflects the criteria that matter in the category — cleaning performance, battery life, build quality, features and value for money. The criteria used are listed on each comparison page under “How we compare”.
The order within a comparison table follows the overall score. Because the criteria and their weighting differ by category, the same product can be scored and placed differently on different pages. The size of any commission has no bearing on the order or the scores.
Star ratings and review counts come from Amazon and reflect customer opinion there. We do not collect or verify those reviews ourselves. The date we last checked them is shown on each page.
All prices include VAT and exclude delivery. Prices and availability can change at any time; what applies is the price shown on the retailer’s site when you buy. We check the prices shown here at regular intervals and state the date of the last check directly beneath each table.
